A man in Elkin, NC, which is northeast of Wilmington NC real estate, caught the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce on his grand daughter’s Barbie fishing rod and reel. His grand daughter had asked him to hold the rod while she went to the bathroom.
He caught the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, which was 2 inches longer than the rod. The girl’s father bought the pink Barbie fishing rod as a Christmas present. The girl caught a few bluegill before her grandfather caught the catfish.
