I know the economy is bad… but…

What is it with the faking a disability appeal? I saw an news show where they exposed people who pretend to be disabled to collect disability insurance or worker’s comp. It showed one guy walking into his house using a cane and wearing a neck brace. Then a little later he walks out of his house carrying heavy suitcases and not wearing a neck brace anymore or using a cane. He then lifts those suitcases into the trunk of his car, hops into his car and drives off.

It’s people like that who make it hard for people who are really injured to get compensation. I was injured at work in 2001 and ended up having to go to court and all kinds of doctors in order to get the treatment I needed for my back. Unfortunately I had left work after I was injured, but luckily I had filed a report about the injury the day it happened. The place I worked for was trying to say I injured my back after I quit. I had a good lawyer and got the treatment I needed.

I never want to get that way

I remember several years ago reading a news article about someone who was bedridden and was so large and needed to go to the hospital. They were too large to fit through the door and they had to either cut a hole in the wall or enlarge the door frame to get this person out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a “fatty hater”, I just don’t understand how someone could let themselves get so big when there are so many things that can help you lose weight. There is diet and exercise, extreme weight loss pills, stomach stapling or gastric banding.

I understand that some people eat when stressed but my goodness how much stress does one person have to be under to eat themselves into certain death? It has to be so humiliating to be so large that you can’t get through a doorway.

My own mother is about 5′ 2″ tall and weighs over 200 lbs. She gets out of breath just walking across the room. Her bones can’t support the weight very well and her back and knees bother her. She has a hard time getting up out of a chair without a struggle. She’s 89 years old and has been big for the last half of her life. She says she just has big bones. Denial is another thing that contributes to her weight. I just know that I never want to get that big.

Shoe connection

What you wear on your feet can have a connection to aches and pains in your body. The shoes you wear can either cause aches and pains or get rid of them depending on the type of shoes. I saw an ad for MBT shoes.

These shoes are supposed to help improve your posture and relieve stress on your back and joints. A lot of your muscles are being exercised whether you are walking or just standing still while wearing these shoes. When you wear these shoes it’s like you are walking barefoot on a sandy beach or some other equally soft surface.

Old school workouts

Old school workouts are making a comeback. What I mean by old school is using a medicine ball. With all of the state of the art weight equipment available some people are going back to using medicine balls to work out with. A medicine ball is a weighted ball that ranges from two pounds to 25 pounds and costs between $15 to $60.

Some medicine balls come with handles and some come with ropes and can be swung.

Medicine balls are designed to increase your core strength (abdominals, lower back, spine and hips), build strength in both the upper and lower body and improve flexibility.

To tighten your abs:

Lie on top of a bench and hold the ball on the sides above your chest. Press the ball toward the ceiling while keeping your body still. Slowly lower the ball. Repeat.

Lie on top of a bench and hold the ball on the sides above your chest. Move the ball over your head using your shoulders. Slowly return the ball. Repeat.

Lie on the floor with your legs bent and your feet and head touching the floor. Hold the ball over your chest. Bend your arms and curl toward your legs while tightening your stomach muscles.

With your knees bent lie with back and feet on the floor. Squeeze ball with knees. Hold arms at your side with your palms down. Lift your butt off the floor and bring ball over your chest. Slowly place feet on the floor. Repeat.
