Musical road

Workers on Wednesday began carving grooves on Avenue G in Lancaster, California that will produce notes of the “William Tell Overture” when cars drive over them.

The high desert city north of Los Angeles placed the grooves on another road, Avenue K, last month for a Honda commercial. The quarter-mile strip was engineered to play the notes - better known as the theme for “The Lone Ranger” - when motorists in Honda Civics hit them at 55 mph.

It was believed to be the first such musical road in the United States, although there are others in Japan, South Korea and Holland. The city paved over that stretch two weeks later after neighbors complained the noise was annoying and kept them awake.

The city, however, received hundreds of calls praising the road and decided to recreate the road in an industrial area away from homes. “It will be a tourist attraction. It will pull people off the freeway,” the mayor said and many residents also liked it.

“You drove over it and you didn’t know what to expect. When we got to the end of it, I was smiling ear to ear,” said one woman.

The City Council has approved spending up to $35,000 for the work, but officials said there has been interest from several companies in sponsoring the road and reimbursing the cost in return for publicity.

Nearby news

This happened practically across the street from my condo complex.

Two juveniles were charged in beating a man and stealing his sneakers. They sure weren’t looking for good diet pill reviews.

They face robbery, conspiracy and aggravated-assault charges in the beating of a man before robbing him of his sneakers at knifepoint.

Three young men attacked the 24-year-old man in the woods near Cherokee Drive in Galloway Township. The victim reportedly was taking a shortcut to his friend’s house.

The man did not require medical treatment after the beating.

A nearby resident reported the incident and helped to recover the man’s shoes. The victim later saw two suspects, ages 16 and 17, at the Shoppe’s at Galloway. He called police, who arrested them, according to the statement.

One of the suspects was also charged with possession of paraphernalia, and possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance. Both were taken to a Juvenile Detention Facility.

Busted

3 juveniles were arrested in Egg Harbor Township in connection with a string of burglaries, thefts and vandalism. charged with stealing a flat-screen monitor from a school, damaging a parks field house, setting off fire extinguishers in a school bus lot, stealing items from the township maintenance building and stealing an ATV from a park.

They were also involved in the graffiti and vandalism at a junk yard (were they looking for Ferrari parts?). They used items from a fire company’s Haunted Hay Ride and went joy riding with golf carts from a Golf Course. They were also charged with the theft of a golf cart from a school.

One of the juveniles is 14 and the other is 15. Most of the stolen property has been recovered except for a golf cart that supposedly was abandoned in a gravel pit. The police are still searching for it.

Teeny Tiny

» by User Imagecharlotte in: other

I was looking for a card for my camera and found some micro sd cards. They won’t fit my camera but they are so small they’ll fit on the tip of your finger. They are smaller than a quarter. They are designed for mobile phones. I don’t think it would work with my phone. I don’t see anywhere to put one. But they seem like a great idea for someone who needs storage for their mobile phone. It would be a great way to get photos off your phone, if you have a camera phone.

Baby shower brawl

In Colorado there was a brawl at a baby shower that started when one man struck another in the head with a beer bottle and that man retaliated by hitting the first man in the head with a metal car jack (not a Cat5e Keystone jack).

Four men were arrested. Two face second-degree assault charges. The other two face charges of disorderly conduct. It’s unknown why the fight started. Maybe they didn’t like the color of the onsies they received as a gift!
