Empty malls

There is a mall, not too far from here, that isn’t getting a lot of business anymore. It had 2 anchor stores, Boscov’s and Circuit City. Circuit City went out of business and with the economy being so bad there aren’t a lot of shoppers. Boscov’s has closed a lot of stores too.

There is a TGI Friday’s too but I don’t know how much business they get anymore. I went past that mall a few days ago and there weren’t a lot of cars in the parking lot.

Years ago Sears was the anchor store in that mall but they moved to a larger store in a bigger mall. This mall was always crowded and seemed to be the place to go for anything you needed. Now it’s beginning to look like a ghost town.

Wow, this brings back memories! Not only did I used to hang out at the Shore Mall when I was a teenager, but after high school, I worked at the Shore Mall bookstore. I’m surprised it is still there, but it is, according to the website, and in the same location, too. However, I doubt the same people still own it. This was back in the late 70’s/early 80’s, the owners were an elderly couple, they are surely retired or even deceased by now.

Stuff like the TGI Friday’s and Carrabba’s weren’t there back in my day. I remember Sears, though. Don’t remember if it was where the Circuit City used to be, or where the Boscov’s is now. Can’t recall what the other anchor store was back when I was there.

I’m not surprised it’s having problems. Seems to me that any small, single-level mall is doomed these days. Too bad.
