Medical Waste

Medical waste washed up on the beaches in Avalon. There were syringes, pill casings, 8 inch cotton swabs and IV needles. It’s thought that the medical debris came off a ship and floated onto the beaches.

The beaches were closed on Saturday and again on Sunday when more debris washed up. They were re-opened today after crews combed the beaches to make sure nothing was hidden in the sand. They cleaned up everything including any discarded acne treatment containers.

Back in the 1980’s the same thing happened and the beaches have been clear of medical waste since that time.
