These are some things you should do before you go away on vacation:

Stop newspaper delivery.

Put mail on hold or have a relative pick it up.

Get timers for your lights, inside and out. You can even put a timer on a TV or stereo to have them go on and off like you are at home.

Buy a grill cover and cover your grill.

Have a friend or relative keep your lawn mowed.

Make sure all your doors and windows are locked, including your garage doors.

You could even notify your local police department. Some will do drive-bys to make sure your house is ok.

If you have pets, get a friend or relative to come and care for them or take them to a kennel.
