Speaking of Packing

I wrote a post that you can read below that deals with packing for a trip. That’s what I’m doing right now. We leave for Texas in the morning. My daughter is in Kuwait right now and will be leaving there to come home in the next couple of days. She’s been deployed since October 1, 2006.

We’re driving there and I have all the essentials ready to go. I have my meds, ibuprofen, my digital camera and laptop. I’m supposed to be on a diet because I have high blood sugar and the doctor wants me to lose some weight. By the time we get back I’ll probably have to get the hoodia patch.

When I get back I’ll probably have quite a few travel stories to post. Stay tuned!

Christmas at Storybook Land

Now is the time of year to take the kids to see Santa. I think the best place to go is Storybook Land. My kids went every Christmas season. Their Aunt Laurie always took them which gave me the chance to get things around the house ready for a visit from Santa.

Storybook Land has been around for over 50 years and it’s located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ on the Black Horse Pike (Rt. 40/322). The park will be decorated for Christmas. It will be a beautiful sight to see. The rides are also open. I’m sure they maintain them well with their Ingersoll Rand air tools. Here are some pictures from 2005.

The grand arrival of Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus is the third Saturday in November. The Storybook Land characters will welcome them. Be here at dusk when Santa comes up his chimney to wave his magic wand to light the park with thousands and thousands of lights for the holiday season.

Be sure to go if you are in the area. The kids will just love it!

Vacation Packing

Going on vacation? Unsure of what to pack? Below is a list of packing tips for vacation.

1. The first thing you need to do is check the weather for your destination.
2. Pick an outfit for each day out of your closet and lay it on the bed or floor so you can see what you have.
3. Always make sure to bring something for the unexpected; such as a sweatshirt, or heavy socks or plus size lingerie.
4. Pick a pair of shoes that will go with any outfit. No more then two pairs of shoes is a good rule.
5. When picking makeup, DO NOT bring more then you need and what will fit in your makeup bag. Bring a nice purse that goes with all your outfits. Try not to bring too many toiletries. Always bring a few “feminine items” just in case.
6. Pack the suitcase in the order you will be wearing the outfits with the 1st days clothes on top.
7. Put toiletries in a waterproof bag that won’t leak and get all over your clothes.
8. Remember to pack toilet paper or baby wipes if you will be camping outdoors. If you will be camping indoors somewhere like a cabin, you might want to bring extra toilet paper, just in case.
9. If you bring electronics, bring the charger. This is important for cell phones, iPods, DVD players, etc.
10. That’s it! Go have fun!

South Jersey Bays

Southern NJ has lots of bays, inlets and of course the ocean. If you like to fish, clam, crab or get any other type of shellfish then you’ll love Southern NJ. My grandfather and uncle were clammers for many years. I remember, when I was little, watching them unload the clams they caught. Then they would wash them off with the garden hose. Sometime they got an oyster or two. But they never got enough to make a pearl necklace. One oyster they caught had a tiny little pearl in it. Me being a kid thought that was the most awesome thing in the world.
