Lucy the Elephant

» by User Imagecharlotte in: places

LucyLucy the Elephant is a wood and tin building shaped like and elephant. Lucy is over 115 years old and located in Margate, NJ. *just a warning, that link is to the official Lucy site and can run very slow* I remember going to see her on an elementary school trip. There has been a lot of history written on Lucy.

Another site on Lucy also has links to some other offbeat things. Smiley face water towers, Mr. Peanut statue and Muffler Man who is a pirate.

Thank you so much for including as story about Lucy in your blog. I had forgotten all about her and now will make an effort to go see her. I am a Tufts University Alumni, and our mascot Jumbo the Elephant was destroyed in a fire. Lucy reminds me of Jumbo
I live in Monmouth County so it will not be too long of a trip. Thanks again for sharing.
