Chestnut Neck History

» by User Imagecharlotte in: places

Minute Man MonumentChestnut Neck was a small village near Port Republic, NJ. The Battle of Chestnut Neck fought near Port Republic in 1778 during a failed campaign by the British to destroy the ironworks at Batsto. The British force destroy a privateering center on the Great Bay, capturing a fort burning and pillaging the Village of Chestnut Neck.

There is a Minute Man monument at the site. There isn’t much else there, but if you are interested in the Revolutionary War it’s a place to see.

If you like boating you can take your boat with you. Nearby are some boat ramps at the Chestnut Neck boatyard. You can boat along the Mullica River and the Great Bay. Up along the Mullica is a restaurant that hubby and I have gone to a couple of times. It’s called the Sweetwater Casino. They have very good food.
