Lots of traffic

There was a lot of traffic on the roads today. I guess people were still heading home from the Fourth of July weekend. It took a bit longer than normal to get to work today. It seems that someone lost a load of cardboard boxes in the middle of the road and they were being cleaned up causing some delays.

On the way home from work, on the Parkway, I darn near got run over several times because there was so much traffic. Most of the cars were trying to get off onto the Expressway to head to Philadelphia. I figure most of them were stragglers who had come “down the shore” for the weekend and stretched it out for another day. I really don’t like the summertime traffic around this area. I can’t wait for summer to be over!

Do you like to read on car trips or when you’re traveling by plane or train? I like to do that but I usually end up putting the books down to watch the scenery. I try to concentrate on a book when I travel but I usually fail at that because I think I’m afraid I’ll miss something. I think I might be a little bit ADD. But that’s getting off track here.

What I really want to know is if you, my readers, like to read so much that you carry a book with you where ever you go? How many books do you read in a week? How quickly do you read a book? What type of books do you read? I love books by Dean Koontz and other authors with a similar writing style. Who are your favorite authors?

  • Car travel boredom

A long car trip can be so boring. The last long one I was on was from NJ to Texas. I had my camera and kept snapping pictures; most of which didn’t turn out too well because of the movement of the car. I had the laptop with me and could play games. I didn’t have any MP3 players then but I do have one now.

Some people can sleep when a car is in motion.. I can’t. I have to watch the scenery. I’m afraid if I fall asleep in the car I’ll miss something. I’m also the “social director” on car trips. I’m the one in charge of the cooler and have to get a soda for hubby and open it for him so he can keep his attention on the road. I also have to talk to him to keep him awake. He can sleep in a car and he does if I take over the driving. He’ll snore up a storm while I’m driving.

  • You meet all kinds…

You meet all kinds of people in airports. I’ve met soldiers either on their way home from or going to Iraq, computer analysts, market research assistants, nurses, doctors and I’ve even seen a celebrity or two. One time I met a man who lives and works in NJ, not too far from where I live, and he knew people I knew. Now this doesn’t really sound all that strange except for the fact that we were sitting in the airport in Dallas, TX at the time.

I was there waiting to come home from my oldest son’s wedding and the man was coming home from visiting relatives. This just proves the old saying that it’s a small world.

Have you had anything like this happen to you when you were away from home?

Just a few tips for traveling by airplane…. Most airlines have a weight limit for baggage. Only pack what you absolutely need. Don’t put anything in your checked bags that can be broken or punctured. Andi found that out the hard way. She had a bottle of shampoo in her bag, not in a plastic bag, that got punctured and the shampoo got all over her clothes and her jewelry. That meant that as soon as she got here she had to wash her clothes and clean off her necklaces.

Always put any bottles of toiletries in a plastic zipper bag. If they are small bottles, under 4 oz, you can put them in your carry on in a zipper bag.

Always wear shoes that are easy to remove because you’ll have to take your shoes off when you go through security. Be sure to remove all change and keys from your pockets and take off your belt or you’ll set off the alarm at security.
